For years, a large amount of waste has accumulated near the village of Belogradets. Ivelin Mihaylov, an MP from the political party "Greatness" (Velichye), highlighted the unregulated landfill in a report published on the YouTube channel "Svoboden Glas." He noted that this is the home village of Erdzhan Sebaytin Ebatin, the regional coordinator of the DPS-NN and director of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Varna. Ebatin often returns to his home, which is located not far from the landfill.
Although a fire in the summer has reduced the landfill's size, it remains substantial and contains various types of waste. Mihaylov pointed out that Ebatin frequently speaks about ecological issues. However, he was also the one who advocated for wind turbines in Northeastern Bulgaria and constructed a tailings pond near Varna's main water source. Furthermore, it is known that Europe’s waste is incinerated in Devnya, with the filters reportedly shutting down at night. Mihaylov mentioned that he had previously proposed the establishment of separate waste collection sites to clean up the environment, but Ebatin, as the director of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water, obstructed these efforts to continue his own schemes.
Additionally, the MP claimed that Ebatin is known for driving high-end luxury cars and has friendly ties with the owner of an "investigative" journalism website. There are also suspicions regarding his potential drug use. Interestingly, Ebatin is currently investigating the planting of 10,000 trees in the Vetrino municipality, while the Ministry of Environment and Water, along with regional inspections, have been ignoring the illegal dumps that have been reported in the Velichie Nature Reserve for the past three months.
