The municipality of Varbitsa serves as a clear example of the misuse of public resources. This was highlighted in a video report by "Svoboden Glas," where MP Ivelin Mihaylov from the "Greatness" (Velichie) Party presented evidence regarding a contract awarded for over 857,000 leva to clean up a site near the Gerila River within 90 days. However, the project resulted in significant environmental damage estimated at 3 to 4 million leva, as part of the humus layer was removed and waste was left partially scattered.

Mihaylov emphasized that the contract price was heavily inflated, suggesting that the local government orchestrated a scam for at least 2 million leva. This situation comes with serious social repercussions, including the potential for increased health issues in communities that receive water from the Ticha dam, into which the Gerila River flows.
