During a live stream on the YouTube channel "Svoboden Glas," Mihaylov affirmed his choice and pointed out an abuse of power by local officials, specifically accusing the mayor of Varbitsa.
“I do not wish to accept any funds from the state,” he expressed.
“As a parliamentary member, I have opted to return the apartment in Sofia that was allocated to me because I wanted to avoid taking any funds from the state. I am also relinquishing my vehicle and protection from the National Security Service, which I am entitled to as the leader of a parliamentary group. I do not partake in meals at the National Assembly. I do not cost the state a single lev.”
His salary will serve a different purpose—supporting associates who will assist in various regions across the country.
“The aim is for courageous Bulgarians who highlight governmental misconduct to feel confident, knowing someone is advocating for them. Unlike other deputies who, once elected, rapidly forget about their constituents.”
Mihaylov's choice is a rare instance of foregoing the comforts of political life for the sake of principles and seeking justice. While many perceive politics as a path to personal benefit, he exemplifies dedication and accountability to the citizens he serves.
