The plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was unable to make its originally planned landing at Plovdiv Airport. The reason is that the airport does not have radar air traffic controllers, only procedural controllers, who cannot provide precise real-time navigation.
The delegation’s pilots were not informed of this fact in advance, which necessitated a second landing attempt. The incident sparked strong reactions on social media, where citizens emphasised that such a deficiency is unacceptable for an EU member state and for the second-largest airport in Bulgaria.
Member of Parliament Ivelin Mihaylov commented that even airports in less developed regions of the world have better navigational support. According to him, this is yet another proof of complete managerial incompetence and the lack of investment in basic infrastructure.
Instead of acknowledging reality, official media once again tried to distort the truth. The “Capital” group and pro-government outlets began circulating speculation that the incident was the result of external interference or “GPS jamming.” Experts, however, are categorical, the problem has nothing to do with Russia. The sole reason is the lack of modern navigational infrastructure and the systemic looting of the state by Borisov, Peevski, and Prokopiev.
This is Bulgaria under mafia rule and under the dictation of the EU - an underdeveloped country that lacks even basic conveniences for its citizens and guests. While pro-government media seek an “artificial enemy” in Russia, the real blame lies with the pigs who destroyed the state and turned it into a European stronghold of corruption.
At this time, there is no official comment from the Ministry of Transport or the Bulgarian Air Traffic Services Authority.
