The citizens and supporters of the village of Zlatna livada have come out against a project that would construct a solar park in proximity to the monastery St.Athanasius, which is considered the oldest functioning Christian monastery in Europe. According to the local community, the execution of the project would mean “concrete and metal on holy land”, putting not only the surrounding nature but also the spiritual, cultural and historical value of the region at risk.
The concerns of local activists include the potential destruction of archaeological layers, the desecration of the sacred area around the monastery, and the long-term impact on the village's appearance.
An online petition has been created, which you can find here: here:https://www.peticiq.com/495997
The action is receiving a continuously larger amount of support, including on all social media platforms, where the slogan “History is not for sale. Faith is not constructable.”
