The Bulgarian National Bank - ruled by the mafia and working against the law

Against this backdrop of “powerlessness,” the full cynicism of the mafia stands out. While Peevski, sanctioned by the U.S. precisely for corruption, can freely dispose of his accounts and operations in Bulgaria, for more than a year now, Ivelin Mihaylov and people around him have been subjected to a complete economic blockade.

The Bulgarian National Bank has officially admitted that it is powerless to stop individuals sanctioned under the “Magnitsky Act” from operating within the country’s banking system. In response to a parliamentary question from Assen Vassilev of “We Continue the Change,” the Central Bank justified its position by citing the lack of explicit legal regulation. This means that despite Delyan Peevski being included in the “Magnitsky” list for corruption and influence peddling, the BNB has no intention of taking measures against his transactions and the risks they pose to Bulgarian banks.

In his letter, Assen Vassilev recalled that as early as June 2021, the BNB claimed that banks were already blocking accounts, cards, and imposing freezes on individuals under sanctions. Now, however, the Central Bank argues that it has no authority and leaves everything to the discretion of the banks themselves. With this inaction, the BNB risks Bulgarian banks being drawn into international sanctions.

They have been deprived of access to banking services, without any sanction, court ruling, or legal reason, simply because they are inconvenient to the “pigs” and refuse to submit to them.

The result is a grotesque picture. Sanctioned corruption figures like Peevski are protected by the institutions, while free citizens are financially strangled on the orders of the “pigs.”

It is becoming increasingly clear that the state is not a victim, but a weapon of the mafia, which protects its own and destroys anyone who dares to oppose it. And it must be remembered that although the “Magnitsky” list is formally valid only for the U.S., its influence is global, because no bank in the world dares to ignore the sanctions and risk being cut off from the international financial system.
