Manol Genov has neglected yet another environmental issue, this time involving the illegal burial of dozens of diseased sheep near the village of Tatarevo, in the municipality of Parvomay. This was revealed by Krasimira Katincharova, a Member of Parliament from the political party “Velichie.” In an interview with Svoboden Glas (“Free Voice”), she stated that during a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Water, the Minister tried to mock the topic of ecology and hinted that nothing depended on him.
According to Katincharova, the minister has oversight powers that he fails to exercise, even though the Ministry of Environment and Water is responsible for ensuring that Bulgaria remains a clean and orderly place. To make her point clearer, the MP had to remind the minister of the authority and responsibilities of the ministry he heads.
In her opinion, since illegal landfills occupy a large part of the country's territory, pollution is no longer just a local issue for mayors, but a national one. She emphasised that information about the buried animals near Tatarevo was submitted a day earlier, along with the necessary evidence. Although the minister carried out an inspection, his attempt to shift the responsibility to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food does not absolve him from accountability. Not only because the carcasses are located near groundwater and a chapel with healing water, but also because the burial itself is illegal, there was no order for euthanisation and no protocol for site selection.
