The ex-mayor of the municipality, for whom the residents of September should feel "thankful" for polluting certain locations, is among the few mayors in Bulgaria who have been expelled due to their offenses.
A week ago, 167 illegal dumping sites were reported around the town of Septemvri. Yordan Mitsikulev from the “Greatness” (Velichie) political party shared this information with Channel 3, while showcasing several of the locations to a television crew.
The first illegal dump is situated near the cemetery park. Although the site has been partially cleaned, the amount of trash present is overwhelming. To conceal some of the debris, a ravine about 3 to 4 meters deep was filled, and this buried waste will ruin the fertile land for generations. Just a short distance from this location, there are eight lakes that are utilized for agricultural irrigation, along with an orchard. The Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water believes that efforts to address this dump have been ongoing for years. Nevertheless, the situation continues to be delayed, and no one has faced punishment. The previous mayor of the municipality, for whom the residents of Septemvri should express their “gratitude” concerning this site, is among the few mayors in Bulgaria who have been dismissed for their crimes.
Another dump highlighted in the footage is found within the office yard of the Septemvri Municipality. Mitsikulev and the television team entered the building seeking explanations, but they were unable to locate the current mayor, who is the wife of the former mayor, nor any other officials present.
The third dumping site was along the road leading to the village of Varvara, where a large area is contaminated and a toxic lake has developed on the ground.
