Simon Milkov, better known to many as Simo Teka, has long stirred public interest and controversy. He portrays himself as an anti-corruption whistleblower and outspoken critic of institutions, yet his name is also tied to numerous court cases and criminal charges.
One such case stems from his arrest in Varna, where the court ruled that police actions were lawful, though the reasoning behind the decision has not been made publicly available.
Another high-profile incident occurred on December 2, 2024, when Milkov was detained in Popovo. He was charged with disorderly conduct that disrupted public order and showed blatant disrespect for society. The District Court ordered that he remain in custody, a decision later upheld by the Targovishte Regional Court. Judges noted the case was at an early stage, that there was reasonable suspicion of his involvement, and that there was a risk of reoffending.
The ruling also cited Milkov’s prior convictions for a traffic accident causing property damage, drunk driving, operating a vehicle while banned, as well as hooliganism, insult, and defamation. It further noted that in just two months, eight new case files had been opened against him, and that he had a total of sixteen criminal registrations in Veliko Tarnovo.
Taken together, these details portray a man who is highly visible in public life, yet repeatedly in conflict with the law. While the courts have confirmed that his detention is justified due to the risks he poses, the more serious proceedings against him continue to face delays.
Milkov is also notorious for his confrontational and aggressive interviews with politicians who challenge those in power. By contrast, his interviews with figures such as Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski have portrayed him in a softer light.
This leaves pressing questions: Why does the prosecution keep delaying his trials? How long will Milkov enjoy protection from those in power? And how long will society tolerate it?
