A new scandal with the stench of mafia schemes has erupted in Varna. A 7-acre plot of state-owned forest has been illegally appropriated, and buildings already stand on it, linked to individuals close to Daniel Slavov, known as Dunkata, a familiar name in the criminal underworld.
Reports have already been submitted to both Bulgarian and international institutions. An investigation is expected to begin, one that could bring serious consequences not only for those behind the scheme but also for the buyers of the already-built properties.
Once the land theft is proven, all transactions involving the plot will be declared void, and the state will confiscate the properties. This means dozens of people who bought homes in the area could be left empty-handed.
Legal experts comment that the case is a textbook example of how criminal networks turn state property into private profit while institutions remain silent. The real victims, they say, are ordinary citizens who invested their savings in properties that never legally belonged to the sellers.
Adding to suspicions of serious violations is the likelihood that construction began even before an official building permit was issued. This blatant breach of the law suggests that everything built so far is subject to demolition. Experts insist that if institutions do their job properly, the entire site must be cleared and returned to its original state.
Svoboden Glas will continue to follow the story closely and shed light on every detail of yet another scheme to plunder state-owned land.
