Despite attempts to belittle and ridicule it, the fourth vote of no confidence against the “Zhelyazkov” cabinet turned out to be the most successful one so far. This was stated to the media in parliament by the leader of the “Velichie” parliamentary group, Ivelin Mihaylov, emphasising that six different political formations supported the vote.
The no-confidence motion was submitted by “Velichie” with the backing of the parliamentary groups “Morality, Unity, Honour” (MECH) and “Vazrazhdane,” with a total of 48 MPs signing it. The main reason for initiating the procedure was the failure in the environmental and water sector, which Mihaylov described as catastrophic. Nevertheless, the votes in the plenary hall were not enough – 83 “in favour” versus 131 “against,” which formally ensured the survival of Rosen Zhelyazkov’s cabinet.
According to Ivelin Mihaylov, the result of the vote does not reflect the will of the people but rather the consequences of manipulated and bought elections. He pointed to GERB and DPS as the main perpetrators of vote trading and added that BSP and “There Is Such a People” had “votes added to them during the elections.”
The leader of “Velichie” announced that a new no-confidence vote is being prepared, this time targeting illegal construction and the feudal dependencies in which over one million Bulgarians live. According to him, these people are held in fear and submission, and the political system offers no real solution to the problem because it is part of the problem.
He also stated he was pleasantly surprised by the voting of “We Continue the Change,” while commenting that “Democratic Bulgaria” is already in agreement with those in power.
In response to accusations that “Velichie” is a “pro-Russian offshoot,” Ivelin Mihaylov firmly replied: “Neither I nor Radostin Vasilev from 'MECH' have ever mentioned Russia. That’s what Kostadinov and ‘Vazrazhdane’ do – making a clear distinction between the formations.
“We are not here to play in anyone’s shadow. We are here to return the country to the Bulgarian people,” Mihaylov declared.
The vote may have been rejected on paper, but the voice of the people is growing louder. The storm against the Bulgarian mafia is just beginning.
