The ban on “Historical Park” is a ban on our children’s future

“When we are afraid and allow ourselves to be influenced in exchange for favour, money, or out of fear of being accused of bias, then we are not repressing the ‘Historical Park’ — we are repressing the Bulgarian spirit.”

Banning the “Historical Park” is banning the future of our children. "I believe we are all complicit in this, both those who take active measures and those who passively stand by and watch." This was declared in a statement on behalf of the parliamentary group “Velichie” by Member of Parliament Stiliana Bobcheva. She began her address by saying she had been very proud to graduate with a law degree from Sofia University.

“I was very proud to be part of this academic community, but my pride lasted until May 21, 2025. A few days before that, Sofia University contacted us and the ‘Historical Park’ to ask if they could be gifted a painting — an incredible masterpiece by Miroslav Yotov, depicting Saints Cyril and Methodius. We said that the painting could not be given as a gift, but we could provide a copy and, while it was being made, we would lend them the original to inspire and uplift the students for the celebration on May 24,“ Bobcheva explained.

“A day before the painting was to be displayed at Sofia University, we received a call that, by order from the highest level, this painting was not to be exhibited. The banned painting from the banned ‘Historical Park’,” Bobcheva noted.

She cited data from a PISA study, according to which 53% of students are functionally illiterate in reading, meaning they do not understand what they read and cannot apply it practically in everyday life. 54% of 15-year-olds cannot reach level two in mathematics, which also makes them functionally illiterate, and 48% fall into this category in the field of science.

“When we are afraid and allow ourselves to be influenced in exchange for favour, money, or out of fear of being accused of bias, then we are not repressing the ‘Historical Park’ — we are repressing the Bulgarian spirit,” the MP stated.
